Statement from Assemblymember Reilly regarding the cancellation of session today by Assembly Democrats

“You would think that after two weeks of inaction, Assembly Democrats would finally be ready to do their job – but no.  The Assembly Republican Conference, in an effort to ensure that holding Governor Cuomo accountable remained a priority, attached an amendment to every bill that was supposed to be considered by the Assembly today.  None of the original bills would have addressed the Governor’s emergency powers.  Assembly Democrats took their inaction one step further today by canceling session just to avoid voting on the amendment attached to every bill.”

Statement from Assemblymember Reilly on the recent allegations of sexual harassment made against Governor Andrew Cuomo

“I believe that an independent investigation into these allegations, far beyond Governor Cuomo’s sphere of influence, is necessary if we want to discover the truth.  Former Federal Judge Barbara Jones, while probably an extremely honorable individual, is known to Governor Cuomo and therefore not unbiased.  We also know that the Joint Commission on Public Ethics (JCOPE) is incapable of operating independently from the Governor.”

Statement from Assemblymember Reilly regarding New York State Department of Health Commissioner Howard Zucker’s testimony at today’s Joint Legislative Budget Hearing on Health

“While I am not a member of any of the committees that participated in today’s budget hearing, I did monitor Commissioner Zucker’s testimony, which spanned several hours.  Today’s hearing makes clear the need for not only a legislative hearing dedicated to these concerns specifically but also an independent investigation to determine whether the Cuomo Administration’s actions were criminal or unethical.”

Reilly introduces legislation to ensure that local law enforcement agencies lead investigations of serious and fatal traffic collisions; opposes City Council effort to restrict NYPD’s criminal investigation of such incidents

Reilly joins Assembly Republican effort to form Impeachment Commission to begin review of Governor Cuomo’s nursing home cover-up

The bipartisan panel would consist of eight members, with two appointees from each legislative leader. The impeachment panel would have the same powers as a legislative committee, including the ability to subpoena witnesses and compel records, correspondence, and documents related to the matter to be produced.

Statement from Assemblymember Reilly following Mayor de Blasio’s comments about new guidelines that prohibit COVID-19 testing consent as a pre-requisite for in-person learning

“Since the start of the school year, I have advocated that families should be given the option to have their children tested at a healthcare facility of their choosing prior to their next in-person learning session.  Unfortunately, the city Department of Education has continuously rejected that reasonable request and instead chooses to pay a third party company for this false sense of safety.”

Reilly provides supplementary statement regarding the Cuomo administration’s admission that senior officials actively conspired to cover-up the total number of COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes

“I believe that a criminal investigation, independent and wholly void of political influence from both the Cuomo administration and Biden administration, is the only logical way forward if we are to ever restore the people’s trust in our government.  That said, all options must be on the table, including the impeachment of this Governor.”

Reilly comments on leaked recording which confirms that senior Cuomo officials were aware that nursing home deaths were being undercounted

“The State Legislature must immediately take action to pass a concurrent resolution that rescinds the Governor’s egregious emergency powers, and that, in addition to an independent investigation from the federal government, the Commissioner of the state heath department resign as well.”

Statement from Assemblymember Reilly on today’s announcement that New York City public schools will resume in-person learning for middle school students beginning on February 25, 2021

“There is no denying that this was achieved thanks to the thousands of students, parents, and even educators who organized and made their voices heard over the past several months.  It is that same energy that I believe will soon lead to the reopening of our public high schools, and even the return of youth sports, sometime this year.”

Statement from Assemblymember Reilly on today’s announcement from Governor Cuomo that NYC restaurants can resume indoor dining beginning on February 14th at 25% capacity

“Governor Cuomo spent a considerable portion of his press conference speaking about love and marriage, but forcing restaurants to wait an additional two weeks before they can begin to operate at this next level of reduced capacity is just plain heartless.”
