The following statement is from Assemblymember Michael Reilly (R-Staten Island) on the recent allegations of sexual harassment made against Governor Andrew Cuomo…

“The accusations made against Governor Cuomo must be taken seriously, especially since we were already questioning the Governor’s use of power throughout the pandemic.

I believe that an independent investigation into these allegations, far beyond Governor Cuomo’s sphere of influence, is necessary if we want to discover the truth.  Former Federal Judge Barbara Jones, while probably an extremely honorable individual, is known to Governor Cuomo and therefore not unbiased.  We also know that the Joint Commission on Public Ethics (JCOPE) is incapable of operating independently from the Governor.  That’s why  I am calling on Attorney General Letitia James to appoint someone wholly independent of Andrew Cuomo and his Administration to lead this particular investigation.”
