The following statement is from Assemblymember Michael Reilly (R-Staten Island) regarding the cancellation of session today by Assembly Democrats…
“Recent actions taken by Assembly Democrats make clear that they have no intention of doing their part to hold this Governor accountable. Where are the Assembly Democrats from two weeks ago – the ones who demanded action to reign in the Governor’s emergency powers? When given the chance to act last week, they chose to squander it instead by holding session for less than three hours over the span of three days.
You would think that after two weeks of inaction, Assembly Democrats would finally be ready to do their job – but no. The Assembly Republican Conference, in an effort to ensure that holding Governor Cuomo accountable remained a priority, attached an amendment to every bill that was supposed to be considered by the Assembly today. None of the original bills would have addressed the Governor’s emergency powers. Assembly Democrats took their inaction one step further today by canceling session just to avoid voting on the amendment attached to every bill.
Simply put, this is a disservice to all New Yorkers – but for Albany, this is just business as usual.”
