The following statement is from Assemblymember Michael Reilly (R-Staten Island) regarding a leaked audio recording obtained by the New York Post which confirms that senior officials within the Cuomo administration were aware that nursing home deaths were being undercounted…
“We now have tangible proof that Governor Cuomo and senior officials within the administration conspired to deceptively hide the extent of the state’s death toll at nursing homes, which is believed to sit at more than 13,000 deaths. I have called for an independent investigation into this matter since last summer and tonight’s revelation only heightens the importance of such a request. The thousands of families in this state who lost a loved one in a nursing home don’t just deserve answers, they deserve the truth.
The State Legislature must immediately take action to pass a concurrent resolution that rescinds the Governor’s egregious emergency powers, and that, in addition to an independent investigation from the federal government, the Commissioner of the state health department resign as well. No more smoke, no more mirrors – now more than ever, New Yorkers want to know just how far this coverup goes.”
