Reilly appointed to serve as member of MTA Inspector General’s watchdog advisory board by Governor

The Management Advisory Board was created through the New York State Public Authorities Law and consists of 13 members, each of whom is appointed by the Governor for a term of three years. Appointees are required to have substantial experience in the management of a private enterprise, the delivery of public services, or in labor or labor-management relations. The board is tasked with assisting the MTA OIG in identifying ways to improve services, reduce costs, and increase the efficiency of the MTA and its subsidiaries, such as the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (TBTA) and the New York City Transit Authority (NYCT).

Amid a rise in scams targeting elderly New Yorkers, Assemblymembers Reilly & Tannousis propose an expansion to the list of crimes classified as grand larceny in the third degree

In 2020, between 5,000 and 10,000 elderly New Yorkers fell victim to a financial scam, resulting in as much as $100 million in losses.  New York ranked 4th in the total number of financial crimes that year.  It’s part of a national trend that has risen sharply in recent years, with more and more elderly Americans falling victim to deceptive scams under the pretense of romance, tech support, and government impersonation, to name a few.

“Take Off The Kid Gloves”: In Wake Of Increased Violence, Reilly & Tannousis Call To Increase Penalties On Youth Gun Crimes

According to statistics from the state Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), in 2020, only 3 percent (119 of 3,727) of 16- and 17-year-olds arrested on a felony charge received a felony conviction. Even more troubling is that of this number, only 44 adolescent offenders received sentences in excess of one year imprisonment, despite the fact that there were 48 arrested for homicide; 52 for attempted homicide; 55 for sex offenses; 460 for firearms/dangerous weapon offenses; and 13 for making a terrorist threat.

This legislation would require school and/or school districts to notify school communities of incidences via letter, email, phone, or any other electronic methods that may be available. These notifications would be required to describe the type of emergency protocol(s) implemented, its duration, the status of the incident, and whether law enforcement was notified.
