Assemblymember Michael Reilly (R-South Shore) is announcing the completion of a Metropolitan Transportation Authority project to rehabilitate the old station house of the Eltingville train station on Richmond Avenue. This project included:

  • Installation of a customer information sign and removal of old signage.
  • Installation of new alarm system and several closed-circuit cameras.
  • Replacement of old windows, doors, light fixtures, and ceiling sheetrock.
  • Removal of two columns from old station house facade.
  • Removal of old siding and repainting of station house exterior.
  • Relocating a dumpster used by station staff.

Earlier this year Reilly had the opportunity to meet with Patrick Foye, then-President and now Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, to discuss the rehabilitation project, which had originally been pursued by former City Councilman Vincent Ignizio and State Senator John Marchi. Reilly had also shared some other concerns from the community in regard to the station, which Mr. Foye took into consideration and made sure were addressed before the completion of the project.

At one point work briefly became delayed due to asbestos which had been discovered inside the station house, however quickly resumed once it was removed.

“I am appreciative of Chairman Foye and his team for the attention and care they gave to our concerns about this community eyesore,” said Reilly. “We so often place the MTA on the receiving end of our frustration, but this is certainly something which deserves our gratitude.”
